WEIGHT RECORD 2026: TRANSFORMERS SUCCESSFULLY DELIVERED TO BÜTTEL

After the first transformers had begun their journey to Büttel, the challenging final leg to the offshore wind project’s onshore substation was next on the agenda. With a total transport weight of 760 tonnes on 38 axle lines, we successfully delivered the two transformers, each weighing 462 tonnes and standing 5.3 metres high, to their final destination, setting a new weight record for 2026.

The final transport phase placed the highest demands on planning, engineering, and execution. To safely cross a six-metre-long culvert, a special axle load reduction system was implemented using an additional 10-axle undercarriage module. Another challenge along the route was a newly installed gas pipeline. Through targeted load distribution using steel plates and excavation mats, the pipeline was reliably protected throughout the operation. The final placement of the transformers onto their foundations also required maximum precision. Due to the enormous weight involved, the necessary lateral shifting of the transformers could only be achieved using a truck recovery winch with a pulling force of 2 × 20 tonnes.

Together with our clients, we successfully achieved another important milestone for the energy transition.
