HISTORIC SUSPENSION RAILWAY CAR ON ITS WAY TO WUPPERTAL CENTRAL STATION
An extraordinary piece of Wuppertal’s transport history has reached its new destination: the KAHL Group safely transported the historic Suspension Railway Car No. 76 to Wuppertal Central Station.
The 76-year-old railway car weighs seven tonnes and measures 12,400 millimetres in length, 2,400 millimetres in width and 2,850 millimetres in height. A three-axle tractor unit and a four-axle mega trailer were used for the transport.
A spectacular lifting operation followed at Wuppertal Central Station: using a 450-tonne mobile crane, the historic railway car was lifted across the station forecourt and precisely positioned inside the station building.
In future, the suspension railway car will be displayed in the station’s glass-fronted connecting section. There, it will serve as both a historic landmark and a new gateway to the city of Wuppertal.
An extraordinary project that literally moved history. We are proud that our transport operation played an important part in making it possible.
