G|K400 GIRDER BRIDGE: FIRST THREE TRANSPORTS COMPLETED

The new G|K400 girder bridge has successfully completed its first three assignments for KAHL Group. Carrying transformers weighing 250 and 264 tonnes, the new transport system proved itself in different axle configurations.

Moving loads of 250 and 264 tonnes

For the first transport, a configuration with 2 × 13 axle lines carried a 250-tonne transformer. For the following two transports, each with a payload of 264 tonnes, our team used 2 × 17 axle lines. The route ran from Mönchengladbach to Krefeld’s Rhine port.

Special adapters for a shorter coupling arrangement

Newly developed special adapters were used for all three transformers. They enable the shortest possible coupling arrangement to keep forces acting on the transformer tank low. The design also helps reduce the overall length and weight of the transport combination.

Including both tractor units, the transport combination still measured 87 metres in length. The axle load was reduced to below 14 tonnes.

A successful debut for new equipment

The first three transports demonstrate how the G|K400 girder bridge, tailored vehicle configurations and our team’s experience work together. Three further assignments for final delivery legs are planned.
