History

KAHL is connected with more than 50 years expert knowledge in the field of transport. The following is a list of some documented highlights.

1953 | "All beginnings are difficult "

The historic photograph shows two GMC-vehicles from American army forces with the brothers Hans and Helmut Kahl, who in 1953 at the ages of 23 and 17 established a plant the Konrad Kahl & Söhne (Marburg) in Duisburg. From this Hans und Helmut Kahl oHG was founded in 1956.

1981 | The Original

A milestone in the development of heavy duty tractor units and one example out of many to show the unlimited creativity in case of own made solutions on the part of KAHL, is the construction of the first 4-shaft-tractor in 1981.  Here a second steering shaft was built directly in front of the first driving axle in a 3-shaft MAN-tractor. The tank, the air reservoir as well as the storage cases were positioned directly behind the driving cab, the so called ”heavy load tower“. This development was taken as model for this point onwards. This vehicle was fit out with a 420 PS powerful industrial engine.
It took approximately one year until the prototype was nationwide registered with an overall weight of 35 tonnes. After this Kahl manufactured a few more of these vehicles and therefore pioneered the way for all established manufacturers to use these ideas years later in their series manufacturing.

The development of the traversable combination of step-frame vessel with detachable hydraulic swan neck was already realised in the  vehicle fleet in the 80’s and is until this day the basis of the modern combination of chassis.

1998 | The relocation

The relocation from Duisburg to Moers enabled the expansion of the company’s activities. The by now 60.000sqm factory premises and warehouses with 150 tonne crane capacity, conveniently located, provide new options. The new factory premises is not only for warehousing, handling and packaging of heavy goods but also industrial mountings can be carried out on our own premises. A spectacular example of this is the assembly and work on all parts of the new overhead railway station Vohwinkel in Wuppertal. The complete mounting of the station was carried out on an area of 5000 sqm. The transportation and disposal of 700 tonnes of old parts was a logistical challange as well as the just in time delivery of the pre-mounted new parts to the building site.

2004 | Alternation of generations and strategic direction

Rainer and Andreas KahlIn 2004 after 50 years of experience, the board of management was taken over by current owners and Managing Directors Andreas and Rainer Kahl and the new company KAHL SCHWERLAST GmbH Internationale Schwertransport Logistik was founded. The broad own vehicle fleet was completed by modern and customised equipment, very flat telescopic low beds as well as high volume vehicles with electro-hydraulic adjustable canvas cover.
In the near future automotive heavy duty modules with hydrostatic traction drive will be available. They will predominantly be implemented for power stations and plant constructions.

By using cross-system EDP-applications, the sequence of operations are now optimally guided and controlled.

Our highly efficient and motivated employees, working with the most advanced technological aid and wide range of knowledge are able to organise all sophisticated logistic projects satisfying all customer requirements.

The company goal, both through corporate management and effective controlling, is to achieve the highest quality service.
